This collection of work depicts varying emotions by focusing on the spine for emphasis.
I pioneered the tapered bone blacksmithing technique in 2009 and forged each spine individually to portray various chapters of my life that were emotional highlights.
I used cables to suspend and hold the work in place for added tension. Throughout some of my struggles in life, I have always believed in have a backbone to speak out is a large part of my strength of character.
The recurring insanity sculpture is my interpretation of being trapped in that never ending cycle, until its broken we often keeping repeating the same pattern. When sculpting the form into a circle, I had read how some artists trying to create the perfect circle can go insane. The repetition and insanity merge very well together, hence the title.
I have often had a visually harsh exterior to combat the vulnerabilities of inside.
